What is Jalapeno Popper Dip?
Jalapeno Popper Dip is a creamy jalapeno dip that contains multiple cheeses, garlic, green onions, mayo, sour cream and bacon. It's all the best ingredients from Jalapeno Poppers made into a dip.
Often times this delicious appetizer is topped with a crunchy topping. Anything from bread crumbs to crackers.
I do not type mine that way. I top my recipe with more bacon, green onions, a little sharp cheddar cheese and crispy jalapenos!
Recipe Ingredients
- Cream Cheese - This makes the dip extra creamy and scoopable. Full-fat cream cheese has the best flavor.
- Fontina Cheese - Fontina is a super creamy cheese that melts SO well.
- Extra Sharp Cheddar - I use extra sharp white cheddar in the cream cheese mixture and a little bit of extra sharp yellow cheddar to top the Jalapeno Popper Dip with at the end.
- Garlic - Fresh garlic cloves are the way to go here. Garlic powder will not give the same flavor we're looking for.
- Fresh Jalapenos - I like to taste my jalapenos before adding them to the dip. Jalapenos from the grocery store can have varying levels of heat. Tasting them is the best way to get the right amount of heat for your preference.
- Kosher Salt - Salt helps bring out the flavors of all the ingredients in the dip.
- Mayo - I always use Hellman's Mayonnaise.
- Sour Cream - Sour cream helps make the dip more scoopable.
- Bacon - I like to use thick cut bacon. You can leave the bacon out if you'd like this recipe to be vegetarian.
- Green Onion - Green onions give a nice light onion flavor.
- Crispy Jalapenos (optional) - I like to top this dip with a few crispy jalapenos for a little extra crunch and flavor. I find them in the produce section of the grocery store. Leave them off to make this recipe gluten free.
Equipment
- Crock Pot - Cook this Jalapeno Popper Dip in a Crock Pot or slow cooker then keep it warm in while serving.
- Cheese Grater or Food Processor - You can hand grate the cheeses or use a food processor. Personally I think a food processor is quicker and easier but a hand grater works just fine!
- Large Bowl - You'll want a large bowl if you're grating the cheese by hand.
- Sharp Knife - Use a sharp knife to cut the jalapenos, green onions and garlic.
- Cutting Board - Cut your veggies on a cutting board. I like boards with a lot of space to work. I use a wooden board and a plastic board with grips.
Expert Tips
- Taste your jalapenos before adding them to the Jalapeno Popper Dip. They can have varying levels of spice and this is important to ensure you don't end up with too much heat or too little heat based on your heat preferences.
- Using a Crock Pot to make this dip makes for easy cooking then you can also keep it warm during serving time. This is a great recipe but not as great when it gets cold. I don't recommend using a serving bowl to serve this dip.
- This dip is an easy appetizer that is perfect for football season and any other party you're headed to!
- Make the dip ahead then heat it up when you need it! It's delicious the next day. You can make this dip up to 3 days ahead of time.
- Use a baking dish if you're in a hurry. If you don't have much time then you can make this dip in a baking dish in the oven. Bake it at 350°F for 25 minutes. Top it with yellow cheddar then broil for a few minutes. Add bacon, green onions and crispy jalapenos when it comes out of the oven.
- If you want this recipe to be gluten free then just leave the crispy jalapenos off the top of the dip!
- This dip can be a great addition to your chicken recipes! Try adding it to the top of my Juicy Air Fryer Chicken Breast Recipe, topping with sharp cheddar then broiling for a couple minutes!
How to make this Jalapeno Popper Dip Crock Pot Recipe
This is such an easy party dip!
Cook the bacon, drain it on a paper towel then cut it into ½ inch pieces. Shred the cheeses with a hand grater into a mixing bowl or with your food processor.
Add all ingredients to the Crock Pot then stir together. It won't stir together very well and that's okay. You just want to mix it a little.
Turn the Crock Pot on low and heat for 1 ½ hours, stirring every 30 minutes or so. Once the Jalapeno Popper Dip is melty and well combined then top with with the shredded sharp yellow cheddar, bacon bits, green onions and crispy jalapenos!
Keep this easy party dip warm while serving. Just set the temperature setting on your Crock Pot to "warm".
I hope this Jalapeno Popper Dip becomes your new favorite dip too!
