This Mango Chamoy Margarita Recipe is perfect for Cinco de Mayo! Fresh mango, mango nectar, lime juice, orange juice, jalapeno and El Jimador Tequila over ice in a chamoy and Tajin rimmed glass.
Mango is one of my favorite fruits and tequila is one of my favorite liquors. So why not combine the two?!
This Mexican drink has the perfect balance of sweet, heat and salt. It's an easy recipe that will go great alongside any Mexican food you're making, like Tacos de Camaron.
This margarita does not contain any triple sec or added sweeteners, like agave nectar or simple syrup. I prefer my margaritas with a little fresh orange juice instead of an orange flavored liquor.
That helps bring out the flavor of the tequila more, in my opinion. With all the fresh fruit and fruit juices in this Mango Chamoy Margarita recipe it definitely does not need the added sugar either.
It's perfect the way it is! Try a Green Tea Shot for St. Patrick's Day or a fun party.

What is Cinco de Mayo?
This is why we love it for Cinco de Mayo! Millions of people in the U.S. and Mexico celebrate Cinco de Mayo each year.
Cinco de Mayo is a very popular holiday held on May 5th to commemorate a famous Mexican battle victory over the French empire.
Mangonada inspiration
In Mexico, street vendors sell a drink called Mangonada. This margarita recipe is similar to a Mangonada recipe.
Instead of the chamoy being inside the glass, there is a little chamoy on the rim of the glass. Then you add tajin.
I highly encourage you to try this Mango Chamoy Margarita. It's the perfect cocktail and might just be your new favorite drink!
We've finally made it to that time of the year! This drink will be made on repeat from now until the end of summer.
Some of the best Cinco de Mayo recipes to serve with this Mango Chamoy Margarita recipe are Shrimp Tacos with Avocado Relish and Chipotle Mayo, Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme Recipe, Dorito Taco Salad Recipe, Pozole Rojo and Creamy Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas
This post is sponsored by El Jimador Tequila and intended for audiences 21 and over. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What is Chamoy?
Chamoy is a thick Mexican syrup. It is a little sweet and a little sour.
Chamoy can be made many different ways but often contains prunes, apricots, chile de arbol, hibiscus and tajin. Tajin contains chili powder, lime powder and salt.
There are sweeter versions and then there are versions that contain a little more kick of heat. If the chamoy is spicy then it will indicate so on the bottle.
How to choose ripe mangos
Choosing a ripe mango for your Mango Chamoy Margarita recipe is very important. Fresh ripe mangos have SO much flavor!
Luckily, it's also pretty easy. You're looking for a mango that has reddish-orange skin.
It should have a slight give to it when you press lightly. It should also smell like fresh delicious mango.
Can I use frozen mango for this Mango Chamoy Margarita recipe?
You certainly can. I prefer fresh mango but if it is out of season, by all means, use frozen.
You may have to do some experimenting to find a brand that you like.
How to peel and dice a mango
Peeling and dicing a mango can be a little tricky if you're not familiar with it. The seed of a mango runs vertical through the mango but a little off to one side.
Start by cutting the top and bottom off the mango. Only about ⅛ inch off the top and bottom.
Then stand the mango up on the wider of the two sides that you just cut. It should be sitting flat so that you don't slip and cut yourself.
Please use a sharp knife for this and anything else you do in the kitchen! Using a sharp knife is actually helpful in the prevention of cutting yourself.
Start at the top of the mango and cut downward. Just cutting the skin off, not cutting away any flesh.
Do this around the whole mango until all the skin is off. This next part may be a little tricky.
Feel the top of the mango, feeling for the pit. Cut downward, avoiding the pit. Do this around the entire mango.
You should end up with 2 wider pieces then 2 skinnier pieces of mango. Lay those flat and dice them on your cutting board.
If you cut down into the mango and it's hard then simply lift your knife and move it away from the center of the mango about ⅛ of an inch.
The hard part is the seed. Throw the seed away.
How much tequila is in a margarita?
This Mango Chamoy Margarita recipe has 2 oz. of El Jimador Tequila in each drink. I never use more than 2 oz. per drink.
Anywhere between 1.5 oz - 2 oz works really well in this recipe.
Recipe Ingredients
- El Jimador Tequila - I use El Jimador Tequila Silver for this Mango Chamoy Margarita recipe. The flavor is smooth and works really well with the fresh fruits!
- Fresh Mango - Muddle the diced mango with jalapeno. If you can't find fresh mango then you could use frozen mango or a small amount of mango puree
- Mango Nectar - Mango nectar can be found in the Hispanic section of your local grocery store, a Hispanic grocery store or on Amazon
- Fresh Lime Juice - Squeeze fresh limes for the best taste
- Fresh Orange Juice - For best results, squeeze fresh oranges
- Jalapenos - Use fresh jalapenos (optional)
- Chamoy - Chamoy sauce can be found in the Hispanic section of your local grocery store, a Hispanic grocery store or on Amazon. I like to use a chamoy that has hot sauce mixed in for some added heat
- Tajin - Tajin is a chile-lime salt that can be found in the spice aisle or Hispanic section of the store
- Lime Wedges - I use lime wedges for a garnish on the Mango Chamoy Margaritas
- Ice Cubes - Serve this Mango Chamoy Margarita recipe over ice
Equipment
- Muddler - You will need a muddler to muddle the mango and jalapeno
- Cocktail Shaker - Using a cocktail shaker makes making this drink easy. This cocktail shaker set includes a jigger to measure your tequila as well
- Small Plates - I use a small plate for my chamoy and tajin. You could also use a small bowl
- Strainer - If you don't have a cocktail shaker then you will need a strainer. The mango and jalapeno get strained out of this Mango Chamoy Margarita recipe
- Margarita Glasses - Use any type of cocktail glass that suits you best! I prefer something like this
Expert Tips
- If you're having guests you can make a larger batch of margarita mix and store it in the fridge for up to 48 hours! Just multiply the recipe by the number of drinks you'll need.
- This Mango Chamoy Margarita is the perfect drink for summer. So why not make it more perfect and add a scoop of mango sorbet in your glass! Then you have a refreshing mango slush!

- If you really want to impress your guests then you can make your own ice cubes. I like to add jalapenos or chamoy to mine.

Where to buy ingredients for this Mango Chamoy Margarita Recipe
I usually have luck at my local grocery store, Jewel Osco. If your local grocer doesn't carry these ingredients then your best bet would be a Hispanic grocery store or Amazon.

How to make Mango Chamoy Margaritas
First add the chamoy and tajin the the rim of a cocktail glass. I like to pour a little chamoy on one plate then a little tajin on a separate plate.
Dip rim of glasses in chamoy then transfer it to the plate with tajin. Twist the glass around making sure tajin covers all the chamoy.
Add a few ice cubes to the glass.
Next, muddle the fresh mango and jalapeno. Then add the El Jimador Tequila, mango nectar, fresh lime juice and fresh orange juice to your cocktail shaker.
Shake for 15 seconds then pour over ice in your glass. If making a larger batch then divide margarita between glasses.
Serve immediately.
This Mango Chamoy Margarita recipe is a great option on a hot summer day. The tequila and mango complement the warm weather so well!
