Ingredients for Pumpkin Spice Margarita
- Tequila - Use your favorite tequila! Remember, great quality tequila will make a great drink. You can use a blanco or reposado for this margarita. My go-to tequilas are Casamigos Blanco Tequila, Casamigos Reposado Tequila, Don Julio Blanco Tequila or Don Julio Reposado Tequila.
- Pumpkin Butter - Pumpkin Butter is a spread made of pumpkin puree, sugars, spices and potentially apple cider. You can find it at your local grocery store and most certainly online.
- Lime Juice - Fresh lime juice is essential for this recipe. Lime juice concentrate will not be the same.
- Orange Juice - Fresh orange juice squeezed right from an orange gives the best flavor for the Pumpkin Spice Margarita.
- Simple Syrup - This is equal parts water and sugar heated over the stove top until the sugar dissolves. You can use store bought or make your own.
- Pumpkin Spice - Pumpkin Pie Spice is a pre-mixed spice blend that you can find at almost any grocery store. I use pumpkin spice in my Pumpkin Cheesecake Cookie recipe and Pumpkin Creme Brulee recipe too!
- Kosher Salt - I like to mix a little salt into the spiced rim.
- Cinnamon Stick (optional) - If you want to get cute, garnish the Pumpkin Spice Margarita with a cinnamon stick.
- Lime Wedge (optional) - Garnish the cocktail with a lime wedge if you like.
Equipment needed
- Cocktail Shaker - This is a shaken cocktail so use your shaker if you have one. If you don't have one then just use a mason jar with a lid!
- Rocks Glasses - I serve Pumpkin Spice Margaritas in small rocks glasses rather than a margarita glass. That is just personal preference, serve them in whatever type of glass you have!
- Jigger - Using a jigger to measure amounts is the easiest route to go.
- Sharp Knife - You'll need a sharp knife to cut the oranges and limes for the fruit juices.
Expert tips
- Don't have a cocktail shaker? Use a mason jar with a lid!

- You can use brown sugar in addition or instead of the salt on the rim. You can also do a plain salt rim, a plain sugar rim or just leave the seasoning off the rim all together.
- Make these for your next fall themed party, maybe alongside pumpkin pie with graham cracker crust!

Where did the margarita originate?
The answer to this is a little more difficult than you may think. There are numerous claims to who created the first margarita and when.
One of the earliest claims is from Carlos "Danny" Herrera. He was making a drink for Marjorie King similar to a tequila shot but more refreshing (via tasting table).
There is another claim that predates this by an Irishman named Madden. In 1936 was the first mention of the drink in a newspaper.
